A Firefighter's Journal: Thirty-Seven Years on the Firegrounds and in the Firehouses of Philadelphia is an awesome book that is perfect for both active and retired firefighters. It is also great for people who want to get a clear picture of how firefighters do their job. The author did an amazing job of helping readers capture every aspect of fire fighting.

As you blaze through its pages, you will feel like you are with the Philadelphia firefighters as they respond to emergencies, put out fires, and save lives. You will come to see, what the job of a firefighter really entails.

The author did a fantastic job of bringing to light the bond and friendship between the Philadelphia firefighters’ crew, as well as the pain, doubts, and other emotions they felt as they did their job. After reading this book, you will no longer see a firetruck the way you used to see it before.

Robert John Marchisello, the illustrious author of this great book, is a big name in the Philadelphia fire department. During his thirty-seven year career as a firefighter, he saved lots of lives and put off countless fires. His journey to the top of the fire fighting space started after he got his degree in Fire Science from the Community college of Philadelphia. He also got a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Temple University and a master’s degree in industrial hygiene. The information he gleans during his college days must have prepared him for the challenge he faced during his career as a firefighter. His career slowly came to an end after several years of service. He is now working as a consultant and a hazardous material instructor at Pennsylvania.

Firefighter’s journal is an excellent read that will take you on a journey with Robert Marchisello. You will come to see how his career began as a curious young man and ended as a veteran fire chief. Just like most dedicated firefighters, Marchisello wanted to be a firefighter from his early days. He did a great job in telling us about his first exposure to sirens and red lights, how he got into the fire department and worked his way up to the top, and the happy and tragic events that happened during is thirty-seven long year career.

In this book, Chief Marchisello made it clear that becoming a firefighter isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. He brought to light the risks and losses associated with the profession.

One notable thing about this book is the way the author used Philadelphia terminologies to bring his stories to life. Even more, his brilliant description of the fire station as well as what happens in the day to day lives of the hard-working men and women making the Philadelphia fire department great is really amazing. In fact, you may even be able to picture some of the pranks and fun times he had with his crew back in the days.

There isn’t a dull moment in this book, as basically every part is informative, educational, funny, and easy to read. Here is what one reader said after reading the book-

“This book is without a doubt a MUST READ for anyone who is either a fan of the Fire Service, Active or Retired Firefighter or anyone who loves reading how firefighters do their job. When reading this novel, it will make you feel like you are in the firehouse or sitting in the fire engine while they are responding to many alarms of service. The book itself will show the humorous side of firefighters and also the sad times when dealing with their profession. You will not be disappointed. A book that took 37 years of keeping a journal will show the details that this author bought to life again.”

Whether you are a volunteer, veteran firefighter, or someone interested in the fire service and wants to know what really goes on behind the scenes, you are going to fall in love with this book, as it is very engaging and difficult to put down.
